Hi!    I'm Sheila..... Welcome to my website

Where does the path in this photo lead? I don't know--and I think that's great!

That way, I can use my imagination to put anything I want at the end of that path. Isn't that what makes writing and reading awesome? You start out at the beginning and never know where the words will take you.

When I was little, I didn't know which paths I'd travel, or where those paths would take me. I've been on some interesting and exciting paths since then.

I grew up in Madison, a beautiful, picturesque suburban town in New Jersey. Beautiful New Jersey? Yes! Don't believe everything you hear or see on television.

When I was little, my favorite picture book was Sugarplum, by Johanna Johnston. My favorite chapter book was Smiling Hill Farm, which was also my mother's favorite when she was a child. My favorite adventure series was The Happy Hollisters, by Jerry West, about a family of children who solved mysteries. I also loved Beverly Cleary's books and even named my pet rabbits Beezus, Ramona and Quimby.

Some of my favorite books now are Frindle and other books by Andrew Clements, Rosemary Wells' Max and Ruby stories, A Bad Case of Stripes, by David Shannon and Harvey Potter's Balloon Farm by Jerdine Nolen.

I graduated from Madison High School (Go Dodgers!) where I enjoyed art class, being on the props crew for the school musicals, and playing saxophone in the concert and marching bands. To earn some money I was a meat-wrapper at the local grocery store. No wonder I became a vegetarian!

I spent my summers swimming in my grandparents' pool, riding my bike with the awesome banana seat, and exploring the nearby swamps.

I went to college at Fairleigh Dickinson University where I played the saxophone and earned a degree in music education. While I was there, I got to play with the band at Carnegie Hall in New York City....twice!

Then I worked for the big oil company, Exxon, where I learned to use computers. Thank goodness I did, because now I do my writing on my home computer and on a laptop, while sipping coffee at Mara's Country Desserts, my favorite place to write.

After Exxon, I went back to school and earned a doctorate in psychology from the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers University (phew! can you say that five times fast?) I worked as a psychologist in private practice for awhile, until my two children were born. I also taught at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where I went to college. I love teaching.

During those years, I also volunteered as a docent at Historic Speedwell, a wonderful museum which was the site where Alfred Vail and Samuel Morse perfected the electro-magnetic telegraph.

Now, I spend my time writing and taking care of my husband and two teenagers, my big dog "Baby," my cats "Pickles" and "Rudy," and a few fish.
In my spare time, I love to be outside with nature. I enjoy hiking and geocaching. Geocaching is a perfect combination of hiking and treasure hunting. You can find out more about this great activity at www.geocaching.com

Good luck on your adventures. Where will your path take you?
